Molly and Kyle’s Malibu Engagement Session was so much fun. We started their session off in one of my most favorite parks, Malibu Creek State Park. Will and I do a lot of hiking on the weekends in the park, and I love photographing there because it is so beautiful. After we left Malibu Creek State Park, we drove to El Matador State Beach and finished their session by jumping in the ocean. Check out the questions I asked Molly and Kyle below to help you get to know them better.
How did you meet?
We both were students at Colorado State University and both went to the local Crossfit gym. I had just finished cheerleading and I wanted to find someone to stunt me. Everyone pointed to Kyle as the guy to go to and said that he would totally be down. It started as business, we would meet up weekly to practice and throw around some stunts. He kept trying to go on a date and I finally said yes on Valentine’s Day We fell for each other hard and became official a little after that. We’ve been together for 3.5 years.
How did you know that your partner was the one?
Molly: Besides the fact that Kyle is very handsome, I love the person Kyle is on the inside. I really like how passionate he is about his work. It was important to me to find someone who was strong willed, and Kyle is so passionate. Additionally, I love how Kyle treats and loves me. It’s one of a kind and I’ve never felt so happy with myself when he’s around. He strengthens me at my worst and keeps me level minded. Kyle was raised by a wonderful family with good morals and values. He stands by something strong and I know he is going to be a great husband and family man. He is a good person all around and is the best to me.
Kyle: From day one, she made me laugh. Her sense of humor is amazing, coupled with a smile that can light up the room. I was immediately drawn to her because her joy is contagious. It wasn’t long before those feelings grew. The specific moment I realized I loved her was when she took care of me all weekend when I had food poisoning. She never left my side, endured all of my nastiness, and even brought me to the hospital where we sat for hours. She is caring, selfless, hardworking, beautiful, and intelligent.
Tell me about your proposal.
Date: Febuary 18th, 2017
Location: Squaw Valley Mountain (where it was supposed to happen), Sunny Side Restaurant (where it actually happened)
Molly: Kyle had planned to ask me at the top of Squaw Valley Mountain in Tahoe on President’s Day Weekend. Everything that could have gone wrong that day, did. I got really sick the night before and told him I wasn’t going to go skiing the next day. He jumped out of bed so quickly and took such good care of me that night, I was able to make it to the mountain. When we arrived at the top of the mountain for our first run, I realized my binding had broken. I tried to go to the shop to get it fixed but everyone was adamant on me staying with the group (because he was supposed to propose). We ended up tying my shoelace around the binding to keep my boots in. On top of all the chaos, a huge storm rolled in and Kyle decided to call “an audible” as he says. Since the visibility was no more than 20 feet, he realized it wouldn’t be for a very pretty engagement. He decided to wait until to do it at our dinner location where he had planned a secret engagement party. When we got the restaurant, he kept asking me to go out to the dock for some nice photos. I refused because I was cold and didn’t want to climb over the giant snow mound. Although it was nothing as he planned and I wasn’t being very complaint, he finally just decided to ask me on the patio porch of the restaurant. Kyle has proposed to me every day for over a year now. I always just laughed and said when there’s a ring I will actually believe you. I had absolutely zero idea he was proposing for real that day so when he got down on his knee in front of the restaurant, I laughed again and said stand up don’t be weird in front of everyone! It wasn’t until his eyes starting watering and he was fidgeting with his pocket that I realized he was proposing. “Oh shit! He’s actually proposing!!” It was magical, perfect, and romantic as one could have ever imagined. He had my mom and step dad fly out to surprise me and join the celebration. We had a lovely dinner afterwards with the whole family. I’ve been on cloud 9 ever since!
What are you most looking forward to about being married?
Molly: Being able to start a family and knowing that I will have a life of happiness being with him.
Kyle: Agrees and says being able to start a family.
What was your favorite part of your engagement session?
We had so many favorites! Going to two completely different places made it exciting (it was like we had two sessions in one). During the session, I liked how we got to look at some of the photos in between shots. It was cool to see how the pictures were turning out. I like how we went from a really hot spot to a cool breeze. It was such a nice way to end the day. And of course, jumping into the ocean! It was fun to relax and enjoy after all the posing.
I hope you like their photos!
